AFR 230 - Jazz Appreciation I

The American art form known as jazz has a rich history, well chronicled in audio and video performances. This course explores the history through the careers of jazz luminaries starting from the 1920s to 1949 who have influenced generations of jazz musicians. Also examined is the development of jazz styles and sub-genres and American social and cultural influences. Class lectures include audio, video and live jazz performances including discussion on the history and legacy of this unique American art form.
