International Studies, B.A.

The major in international studies (30-44 credits) includes a set of core courses from across several disciplines, plus more intensive study through one of two tracks, Global Security or Global Development. Together they ensure that students gain both depth and breadth in international studies.

General Education Requirements (A&S)


In addition to major requirements, students must meet the General Education Requirements that correlate to their degree.

Major GPA and Grade Requirements


Students must maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.0 in courses required to complete the major. All courses required for the major must be taken for a letter grade.

Core (15-32 credits)


Electives


15 additional credits in one of two tracks, Global Security or Global Development. At least 9 of these credits must be at the 300 level or above, from a list of approved courses. No more than 9 of the credits may come from a single discipline. For a current list of approved courses, click here .

In addition, one course in the track must be either IS 281 / IS 381P - Independent Study in International Studies , OR IS 380P - International Studies Internship , OR an IS elective taken in one’s chosen track while studying abroad.
