Secondary English Education Major with Urban Emphasis

The Secondary English Education Major with an Urban Emphasis is designed to prepare pre-service teachers with a program of study to prepare candidates for teaching positions in urban school settings. The integrated instruction and experiences for field work, practicum and student teaching will be in an urban setting under the supervision and guidance of clinical professionals and a trained cooperating teacher. The Urban Emphasis course work follows the same Secondary English Major sequence of professional educational courses. The Urban Emphasis requires students to select certain courses from a specific list of options to complete general education requirement and English coursework.

Additional Information

Secondary English majors must follow NCTE-suggested course areas, including courses concentrating on
the works of women writers and writers of color, courses on film, and courses on poetry.
