Hartford Art School - Program Learning Outcomes


Master of Fine Arts in Illustration (low-residency)

Students will be able to:

  1. Critical Thinking: Evaluate through research and discovery in order to solve design problems.
  2. Visual Form: Demonstrate perception of visual form and structure.
  3. Communicate: Organize information to communicate verbally and in written form.
  4. Presentation: Synthesize and visually present complex information in a concise and compelling manner.
  5. Technology: Demonstrate a competence of and appropriate use of tools, material, and media.


Master of Fine Arts in Photography (low-residency)

Students will be able to:

  1. Cultural Context: Demonstrate understanding of the relationship between personal explorations and the influence of contemporary and historical artistic practice, and how these interface with their personal aesthetic.
  2. Professional Skills: Demonstrate understanding of contemporary professional practices as they apply to the Art Market, Publishing and Commercial fields of photography.
  3. Technical Skills: Demonstrate a high degree of competency in the various modes and methods of photographic image production.
