Communication

 

Master of Arts in Communication

Thesis track students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate mastery of the subject matter pertaining to at least one area of expertise in communication.
  2. Complete an original research project on a topic in the discipline of communication.
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship of theory to research by articulating a theoretical approach in the study.
  4. Implement an appropriate research methodology and analytical tools to examine the study topic.
  5. Be able to report and describe the results of the study in a clear and organized manner in writing.
  6. Be able to orally report and describe the results of the study in a clear and organized manner and answer questions about the project.

Non-thesis track students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate mastery of the subject matter pertaining to at least one area of expertise in communication.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of a research methodology that is related to the student’s area of specialization.
  3. Be able to describe, analyze, and apply theories relevant to the area of expertise.
  4. Be able to articulate the subject matter in the area of expertise clearly and in an organized manner both orally and in writing.
  5. Be able to report and describe the results of a study in a clear and organized manner in writing.

 

Master of Arts in Integrated Communication

Students will be able to:

  1. Identify integrated communication tools and trends to develop a demonstrable set of best practices.
  2. Identify, assess, and leverage traditional, digital, and emerging media touchpoints.
  3. Develop qualitative, quantitative, along with secondary research skills to identify communication challenges and opportunities.
  4. Translate research findings into powerful creative messaging materials and campaign plans that meet communication objectives.
  5. Become effective communicators across multiple contexts, organizational levels, and media platforms.
  6. Produce a fully integrated campaign that tells compelling brand stories, engages audiences, and achieves communication objectives.

 

Computing Sciences

 

Master of Science in Computer Science

Students will be able to:

  1. Analyze a complex computing problem and to apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
  2. Gain competence sufficient to investigate continually emerging new computing technologies, applications, and approaches. 
  3. Apply theory, techniques, and tools throughout the data analysis lifecycle and employ the resulting knowledge to satisfy stakeholders’ needs, and/or, Apply security principles and practices to maintain operations in the presence of risks and threats.
  4. Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles.
  5. Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.

 

Psychology

 

Master of Science in Organizational Psychology

Students will be able to:

  1. Become proficient in using the scientific method to critically review social science research literature.
  2. Successfully integrate theory and practice as applied to the organizational science in the workplace.
  3. Know and understand the scope and methods of organizational psychology and its practical application in the workplace.
  4. Develop in-depth knowledge in at least one current topic in organizational psychology, including, but not limited to work motivation, emotional intelligence, diversity in the workplace, and creativity in organizations.
  5. Accumulate knowledge from different scientific disciplines.
  6. Produce writing that meets high-quality academic standards of presentation, organization, documentation, analysis, and substance.

 

Master of Science in School Psychology with Clinical Child Counseling Specialization

Students will be able to:

  1. Have knowledge of data-based decision making and accountability.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in consultation and collaboration.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in interventions and instructional support necessary to assist in the development of academic skills.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in interventions and mental health services that will assist with the development of social and life skills.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge and skills pertinent to school-wide practices that promote learning.
  6. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in preventive and responsive services.
  7. Demonstrate knowledge and skills that facilitate family-school partnerships and communication.
  8. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in diversity as it pertains to development and learning.
  9. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in research and program evaluation.
  10. Demonstrate knowledge and skills of legal and ethical issues as they pertain to professional practice.

 

Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology

Students will:

  1. Achieve an understanding of the fundamental areas of psychology, including cognitive and affective aspects of behavior, social aspects of behavior, history and systems of psychology, and individual differences.
  2. Achieve an understanding of the scientific, methodological, and statistical methods of psychological inquiry.
  3. Achieve competence in the assessment of personality, psychopathology, and cognitive functioning.
  4. Achieve competence in the delivery of psychological interventions.
  5. Achieve an understanding of issues of diversity and individual differences and appreciate the importance of these issues in their clinical work.
  6. Become familiar with the Ethical Principles for Psychologists (2002) and apply them competently in their professional work.
  7. Acquire the ability to work with diverse professionals and diverse clients.
  8. Develop beginning abilities to work at an organizational or systems level.
  9. Develop the ability to utilize feedback in a productive manner.
  10. Become members of professional societies that provide opportunities for continued learning.
  11. Participate in educational opportunities beyond required classes.
