Master of Arts in Communication
Thesis track students will be able to:
- Demonstrate mastery of the subject matter pertaining to at least one area of expertise in communication.
- Complete an original research project on a topic in the discipline of communication.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship of theory to research by articulating a theoretical approach in the study.
- Implement an appropriate research methodology and analytical tools to examine the study topic.
- Be able to report and describe the results of the study in a clear and organized manner in writing.
- Be able to orally report and describe the results of the study in a clear and organized manner and answer questions about the project.
Non-thesis track students will be able to:
- Demonstrate mastery of the subject matter pertaining to at least one area of expertise in communication.
- Demonstrate knowledge of a research methodology that is related to the student’s area of specialization.
- Be able to describe, analyze, and apply theories relevant to the area of expertise.
- Be able to articulate the subject matter in the area of expertise clearly and in an organized manner both orally and in writing.
- Be able to report and describe the results of a study in a clear and organized manner in writing.
Master of Arts in Integrated Communication
Students will be able to:
- Identify integrated communication tools and trends to develop a demonstrable set of best practices.
- Identify, assess, and leverage traditional, digital, and emerging media touchpoints.
- Develop qualitative, quantitative, along with secondary research skills to identify communication challenges and opportunities.
- Translate research findings into powerful creative messaging materials and campaign plans that meet communication objectives.
- Become effective communicators across multiple contexts, organizational levels, and media platforms.
- Produce a fully integrated campaign that tells compelling brand stories, engages audiences, and achieves communication objectives.
Computing Sciences
Master of Science in Computer Science
Students will be able to:
- Analyze a complex computing problem and to apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
- Gain competence sufficient to investigate continually emerging new computing technologies, applications, and approaches.
- Apply theory, techniques, and tools throughout the data analysis lifecycle and employ the resulting knowledge to satisfy stakeholders’ needs, and/or, Apply security principles and practices to maintain operations in the presence of risks and threats.
- Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles.
- Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.
Psychology
Master of Science in Organizational Psychology
Students will be able to:
- Become proficient in using the scientific method to critically review social science research literature.
- Successfully integrate theory and practice as applied to the organizational science in the workplace.
- Know and understand the scope and methods of organizational psychology and its practical application in the workplace.
- Develop in-depth knowledge in at least one current topic in organizational psychology, including, but not limited to work motivation, emotional intelligence, diversity in the workplace, and creativity in organizations.
- Accumulate knowledge from different scientific disciplines.
- Produce writing that meets high-quality academic standards of presentation, organization, documentation, analysis, and substance.
Master of Science in School Psychology with Clinical Child Counseling Specialization
Students will be able to:
- Have knowledge of data-based decision making and accountability.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills in consultation and collaboration.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills in interventions and instructional support necessary to assist in the development of academic skills.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills in interventions and mental health services that will assist with the development of social and life skills.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills pertinent to school-wide practices that promote learning.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills in preventive and responsive services.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills that facilitate family-school partnerships and communication.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills in diversity as it pertains to development and learning.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills in research and program evaluation.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills of legal and ethical issues as they pertain to professional practice.
Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology
Students will:
- Achieve an understanding of the fundamental areas of psychology, including cognitive and affective aspects of behavior, social aspects of behavior, history and systems of psychology, and individual differences.
- Achieve an understanding of the scientific, methodological, and statistical methods of psychological inquiry.
- Achieve competence in the assessment of personality, psychopathology, and cognitive functioning.
- Achieve competence in the delivery of psychological interventions.
- Achieve an understanding of issues of diversity and individual differences and appreciate the importance of these issues in their clinical work.
- Become familiar with the Ethical Principles for Psychologists (2002) and apply them competently in their professional work.
- Acquire the ability to work with diverse professionals and diverse clients.
- Develop beginning abilities to work at an organizational or systems level.
- Develop the ability to utilize feedback in a productive manner.
- Become members of professional societies that provide opportunities for continued learning.
- Participate in educational opportunities beyond required classes.
