FIN 726 - Healthcare Insurance and Financing

Course Cross-listed with INS 726
3 credit(s)
This course examines how health care in the U.S. is financed by government programs (such as Medicaid and Medicare), private health insurance (either employer-provided or individually-purchased), and the consumer. The basic principles of insurance and risk management are employed to evaluate the structure, operation and performance of the health care financing mechanisms from the perspective of various stakeholders, including regulators, private insurers, federal and state governments, employers, and consumers. Emphasis is placed on how different financing mechanisms affect access to, quality and cost of care. The impact of health care reform and ethical issues such as the conflict between social and market justice will also be explored.
Prerequisite(s): MGT 605 .
