MGT 282 - Small-Business PracticumCourse Cross-listed with MKT 282 3 credit(s) This is a service learning course that involves students working one-on-one with a micro business located in the Upper Albany neighborhood of Hartford. Students provide resources, training, and support on-site, outside of a traditional classroom and gain practical experience in small business operations. Students registered for the course are first assessed to determine their areas of interest, following which they are assigned to a micro business. Building on the busniness needs assessment work performed during the past year, students are assigned to specific businesses and provide support and training in specific areas as defined by the needs assessment. Students share their specific relevant interests and expertise with the businesses. Much of the work takes place on-site at each business in the City of Hartford. Each week students attend a 70 minute class involving talks and discussions by the instructor and small business professionals. Additionally, Students spend a mandatory five (5) hours per week assigned to a micro- business during business hours (9-5). Feedback from the micro business entrepreneur is considered in determining student performance in the course. Prerequisite(s): Sophomore standing and approval of instructor.
