NUR 301 - Medical Surgical Nursing I

This course focuses on the care of adults who are coping and adapting to chronic illness. The student is introduced to concepts of physiological regulation, inflammation, and immunologic function. Selected endocrine, renal, gastrointestinal, respiratory, neurological, and oncological conditions will be examined. Pharmacological treatment modalities will be introduced. Principles of legal and ethical standards of nursing practice will be utilized within the context of caring for patients with chronic health problems. The student will utilize critical thinking skills to examine health promotion and maintenance for the chronically ill. Under direct supervision in clinical and laboratory settings, the student will function as a member of the nursing team to provide safe and competent patient care. A passing grade of C and satisfactory achievement of clinical objectives must be accomplished to pass this course.
Prerequisite(s): NUR 201 .
