JS 206 - Culture and Society in the Near East

This course is taught in English and examines the historical, social, religious, cultural, and artistic aspects of the modern Arab world. Students learn about traditions and customs of Arabs in the Modern Middle East and become familiar with the rich diversity of the region. They understand the development of Arabic culture within a historical context from the classical period to the present-day. Students gain a realistic view of the cultural contours of the modern Arab World which they explore through lectures, discussions, films, articles, music, art and anthropological texts.
