UISC 211 - Discovering America II: American Civilization, 1865-1945

This integrative course investigates American society, culture, and thought, focusing on America’s emergence as an industrial nation and a predominantly middle-class culture. Topics: impact of capitalism and technology, immigration and its social consequences, religious sectarianism, civil rights struggles, closing of the Western frontier and its surviving popular myth, and emergence of a mass consumer society. (Formerly AUCW 211)
Prerequisite(s): No prerequisites, open to first-year students.
