FIN 580 - Financial Mathematics

This course provides an overview of the fundamental concepts in financial mathematics and how those concepts are applied in calculating present and accumulated values for various streams of cash flows. Topics include present value, accumulated value, annuities, perpetuities, valuation of various financial instruments such as loans and bonds, determination of portfolio rates of return, the term structure of interest rates, and financial metrics such as duration and convexity and the risk management concepts of cash flow matching and immunization. Students will also be introduced to interest rate swaps.
Prerequisite(s): M 144 or equivalent; and either FIN 310 or FIN 604  or equivalent.
