NUR 505 - Healthcare Ethics

This course provides the student with an overview of ethical dilemmas in management and the business case for ethics management in healthcare. Ethical challenges and conflicting moral issues will be presented. Students will analyze an ethical decision-making framework and the relationship between ethics and management. Best practice strategies and barriers to effective ethical decision making in healthcare will be explored through real-life case studies. The consequences of ethical decision making come with moral challenges for the organization, community, patients and an individual careers. Current ethical dilemmas such as medical errors, conflict of interest, discrimination, patient safety, workforce reduction and the ethics of managing people will be discussed.
