NUR 370 - Maternal Child Nursing

This course considers the application of nursing principles and concepts in the context of childbearing and childrearing families. The course focuses on clinical reasoning and evidence based care that is needed to meet the health care needs of this population. Normal processes of childbearing and child development as well as knowledge of healthy family structure, culture, and patterns are learned in this course. Alterations in maternal/child and pediatric health are addressed, including nursing therapeutics, pharmacology, nutrition, and promotion of healthy lifestyles. Application of theoretical concepts occurs in simulation and clinical laboratories. Under direct supervision, students will be placed in institutional and community settings devoted to the care of childbearing and childrearing families. The student will integrate previously learned nursing competencies to provide safe and competent care while adhering to legal and ethical standards of professional nursing practice. A passing grade of C and satisfactory achievement of clinical objectives must be accomplished to pass this course.
Prerequisite(s): NUR 301 .
