EX 315 - Sport Nutrition

This course presents the scientific basis for sports nutrition emphasizing the energy needs of activity and the effects of dietary intake on performance for competitive athletes and people of all ages wishing to incorporate nutrition into a physically active lifestyle. Specific dietary requirements of carbohydrates, protein and fats and their role in sports performance; micronutrients and water sport performance; weight and body composition will be discussed. Topics will also include ergogenic aids, natural supplements, weight control, dietary fads and myths and the interaction of alcohol, caffeine and tobacco on nutritional status.
Prerequisite(s): BIO 212 , BIO 213 , and exercise science major; or permission of the instructor.
