M 260 - Introduction to Data Science

This course provides an introduction to the study of data from the point of view of modern data science. The open source software package R will be used throughout. Topics include Visual Display of Data with an eye toward revealing hidden patterns in the data (univariate and multivariate displays of data using R), Data Wrangling (reading data sets into R and re-organizing the data to make it conform better to the concept of “tidy data”) and an introduction to statistical modeling (multiple regression and other introductory statistics topics)
Prerequisite(s): M 114  or M 144  or permission of instructor.
