EDH 617 - SPED: Student Teaching & Seminar - SLD 3 credit(s) This course provides student teacher candidates with an opportunity to grow as reflective practitioners during the supervised student teaching experience. In the school classroom, candidates work very closely with both their University supervising instructor as well as their on-site cooperating teacher. In the seminar, candidates are given opportunities to further build their capacity as educators to analyze and reconstruct their teaching through peer collaboration, reflection, reading, and professional discourse around theory and evidence-based practices. A focus of the seminar will the interaction between teacher, student, and learning environment as they influence the academic, social-emotional, ethical and political context of schooling. These systemic dynamics affect teaching daily; and as such, it is not simply enough to understand these contexts, but candidates must also able to reflect on them and have the skills to appropriately respond in the “real” world of teaching and learning.
