COM 803 - Advanced Composition (DMA) 3 credit(s) Private composition instruction intended to advance students’ compositional technique and understanding of how their work fits into ongoing developments of compositional techniques, aesthetics, and technology. Individual strengths and needs are addressed through the mastery of both classical forms, technical studies, and the creation of new, original work. This is the fourth and final of a sequence of four semesters of intensive study and mentorship to lead the student to a level of understanding culminating in a Doctor of Musical Arts degree (DMA). In this semester the student should prepare and submit a proposal for his/her dissertation piece, tom be approved by the faculty. Students who complete this curriculum successfully will be qualified to work at the highest professional and institutional level. Prerequisite(s): COM 802 .
