NUR 301 - Adult & Older Adult Health I

This course focuses on the care of adults and older adults who are coping and adapting to chronic illness. The student is introduced to concepts of physiological regulation, inflammation, and immunologic function. Selected endocrine, renal, gastrointestinal, respiratory, neurological, and oncological conditions will be examined. The concepts of health promotion, disease prevention, and disease process for diverse adult and older adult populations and their affected families are introduced. The nursing process will be used to guide care for potential, acute, and chronic health care problems as well as the promotion of wellness. Pharmacological treatment modalities will be introduced. Principles of legal and ethical standards of nursing practice will be utilized within the context of caring for patients with chronic health problems. Under direct supervision in clinical and laboratory settings, the student will function as a member of an interprofessional team to provide safe and competent patient care.
