ADT 497S - BB Complexity and Order in the Natural and Built Environment 1 credit(s) The BB designation indicates this course will be taught at the Building Beauty program at the Sant’Anna Institute in Sorrento, Italy. The class explores how patterns of complexity and order emerge in nature and the built environment, how their understanding may inform the way we look at cities and buildings, the way they are designed and governed, and the way they change in time. In this class students will be exposed to a multidisciplinary scientific exploration of complex adaptive systems in nature and society, to then apply this point of view to cities as complex adaptive systems themselves and to architectural design. The mode of delivery of the class is based on preparatory readings and lectures (distance learning). Prerequisite(s): ADT 156 , ADT 232 , ADT 244 , or junior standing.
