UIST 155 - The Martian Way

3 credit(s)
A human colony on Mars has long been a staple of science fiction, but it has just recently been discussed as likely in our lifetimes. The class will take an interdisciplinary approach to studying the current efforts to establish a Martian colony. Our scientific knowledge will be used to establish some of the technical obstacles and explore how they might be overcome. In addition, we will look at some of the non-technical obstacles including social and philosophical motivations involved in colonization and how they may affect colonization efforts.
