UISS 115D - Philosophy of Indigenous Education: The Truth about Education in this Country


3 credit(s) High Impact Practice: Diversity
This course introduces students to both the history of Indigenous Education in the USA and the current inequities that continue to manifest within educational institutions. It explores Indigenous languages as Indigenous Knowledge Systems, the role of dual language education, and immersion techniques. This course aims to build awareness and capacity to change the mindset around what education is and should be, what constitutes success, and the ways that education must be in service to one’s own community. Course meets Diversity requirement.
