COM 300P - Songwriting Workshop III 2 credit(s) High Impact Practice: Collaborative Learning This course is the third in a sequence of 4 courses designed as group lessons. Students meet with a faculty member having specialized training and experience in popular songwriting. Building upon skills acquired in COM 200P and COM 201P , students will continue to develop ability and skill in the creative processes of songwriting. Topics that support ongoing development and maturation of firmly acquired songwriting technique include: composing songs in a wider variety of contexts, forms, and styles; creative use and invention of increasingly complex chord progressions, additional strategies for crafting effective lyrics and song titles, development of more complex melodies, harmony, and hooks; introduction to arranging concepts, and continued focus on creative collaborative songwriting strategies. Prerequisite(s): COM 201P , composition major enrolled in the commercial music/songwriting emphasis, or music major with permission of instructor.
