POL 316 - Plastic Pollution Policy and Action

3 credit(s)
Area/Group Designation: American Politics and Government
This course is an introduction into the issue of plastic pollution. We will learn deeply about this environmental problem, and discover the policies being used globally to protect water resources. In addition to learning about this issue, we will take an active role in addressing this problem in Connecticut. We will collect data on marine debris in Connecticut, including a beach or freshwater cleanup. We will catalog debris, and use these data to better understand the problem. We will follow policies in the Connecticut General Assembly that seek to address the issue of plastic pollution, tracking them through the legislative session. We’ll also work to see what small changes we can make at the local level to reduce plastic pollution.
