EDD 834 - Social Foundations of Education

3 credit(s)
This class provides an overview of the forces (social, political, economic) that have developed to form and sustain the United States’ educational system from the colonial period to the present moment. The overarching objective of the course is to discuss the complicated relationship between the U.S. educational system and social justice. It is hoped that understanding the historical underpinnings of education will not only lead to academic leaders who continually stress diversity, equity and inclusion in the academy, but also to provide insight regarding why and how the processes of education were set up in a certain way to include and exclude individuals.
