EDD 821 - Critical and Social Justice Policies 3 credit(s) This course examines the policy process, roles and functions of actors, the theoretical underpinnings of policy studies, and the elements associated with conducting policy analysis. The course also explores contemporary issues in higher education policy at the federal, state, and institutional levels. The course is designed to build knowledge about higher education policy creation, adoption, implementation, and evaluation. Students will examine the interactions and tensions between and among stakeholders at all levels of the higher education system, including the media, state and federal policymakers, and other actors as applicable. Through the lens of social justice, students critically review policies and proposals for reform with the focus on improving access, quality, affordability, equity, and accountability in higher education institutions.
