BE 460P - Biomedical Engineering Capstone I 3 credit(s) High Impact Practice: Capstone (with BE 461P) Senior-level capstone project, first course of the two-semester sequence. Over the course of two terms, students work on a culminating biomedical engineering project, originated by faculty or external mentors. Students develop a proposal, then design (or redesign) and construct a biomedical device, process, or system. Multiple formal, written presentations of the project are expected, along with oral presentations of the project. This is a major capstone experience based on the knowledge and skills acquired in earlier course work, and incorporating engineering standards and realistic constraints that include most of the following considerations: economic, environmental, sustainability, manufacturing, ethical, health and safety, social, and political. Course lecture component includes engineering design process, development of testing protocols, formal documentation, FDA and IRB regulations/rules, and manufacturing. Prerequisite(s): Senior standing in biomedical engineering. Laboratory fee.
