HTA 470W - Current Trends in Professional Theatre


3 credit(s) Writing Intensive
This course explores the current trends in contemporary theatre with an emphasis on the continued evolution of theatrical styles, physical production elements, and today’s pathways and challenges in producing professional theatre. In this course, students will (1) analyze plays and musicals of commercial and not-for-profit/regional theatre, (2) assess the role of directors, dramaturges, producers, and other theatre professionals and institutions on the initial writing and development of work critically, and (3) examine the relationships between producing organizations and artists. Students will learn in a seminar format, with each session driven by individual presentations, discussion topics, and plays selected by the students and the instructor. Open to the university.
