DES 200 - Introduction to User Interface Design

This course is an introductory course in visual communication design (VCD) concepts that focus on the fundamentals of screen based content layout. Principles are based largely on current industry trends of end-user expectation and Gestalt principles of organization. The following topics will be explored: Color Palettes, Icon Sets, Grid Structures, Design Atmospheres and Patterning, and Web Typography. The course aims to increase practical hands-on knowledge and awareness of screen-based design and how it should be appreciated in reference to historical and current cultural influences. Studio procedures incorporate computer-generated designs and explorations. Course work includes studio exercises, hands-on projects, reading, and research.
