POL 319 - The Political Image

3 credit(s)
Area/Group Designation: American Politics and Government
How are political themes addressed through visual images? How can comic, graphic, and visual forms influence the way we understand our political system? How do visual artists address political themes through their art? In this course, we will explore visual representations of political themes, delving into how cartoonists, artists, illustrators, and data visualizers share political philosophy, culture and history, public policy, data, commentary on political events, and their own lived political experience. We will create materials that react to and reflect on the work we read, including visualizations of data, political cartoons, political memes, and political art.
