UISC 117D - Cultural Conversations in Music Films and The Performing Arts

3 credit(s) High Impact Practice: Diversity
In this unique course, students will watch arts and culture-related US-produced and international documentaries each week and discuss their historic, cultural and social significance. Students will watch the entire movie in class with the instructor, then debate critical points referenced in the film including key actors, surrounding events and cultural contexts. We will go deeper into topics and themes reflected in the documentaries, such as class, disability, gender, freedom, social equality and ethnicity. In short, this course teaches individuals about the larger world from the perspective of the creative and performing arts.
