UISC 125D - Abortion in America

3 credit(s)
In this course, we will learn about the history of abortion in America, from the 17th century to the present. Over the course of the semester, we’ll examine the perspectives of philosophers, historians, lawyers, and scientists. We’ll also meet with guest lecturers, activists in the reproductive justice movement, and local physicians working in the field of women’s healthcare. The primary goal is to understand how inequities of race, class, and gender have shaped people’s access to abortion, birth control, and other forms of reproductive healthcare, both in the past and in the present.
