ENB 243W - Introduction to British Literature and Empire

3 credit(s) Writing Intensive and High Impact Practice: Diversity
This class will explore the significance of British empire building from the 17th to the 20th centuries. We will have the opportunity to read canonized authors like Swift, Johnson, Wordsworth, and Coleridge, but we will also venture outside of Great Britain to observe the impact that slavery and colonization have had in the “new world.” The class will not only provide rigorous practice in writing and critical thinking, but it will also introduce students to the diversity created by the Atlantic diaspora.
Prerequisite(s): ENB 111W .
