NUR 372 - Nursing Care of Children and Families

This course considers the application of nursing principles and concepts in the context of childbearing families. This course emphasizes the development of clinical decision-making skills related to nursing care of culturally diverse childrearing families with a particular focus on anticipatory guidance, prevention, intervention and health restoration. Emphasis is placed on pediatric healthcare across the lifespan. Alterations in pediatric health are addressed, including nursing therapeutics, pharmacology, and nutrition. Reinforcing health teaching, accident/injury prevention, and pediatric disorders are discussed in this course. Application of theoretical concepts occurs in clinical experiences. Under direct supervision, students will be placed in institutional and community settings devoted to the care of pediatric patients and their families. Emphasis is on the role of the nurse in the delivery of interdisciplinary care. The student will integrate previously learned nursing competencies to provide safe and competent care while adhering to legal and ethical standards of professional nursing practice.
Prerequisite(s): NUR 301 . Corequisite(s): NUR 360P  and NUR 371 .
