PROT 502 - Kinesiology

3 credit(s)
Kinesiology is the study of human movement and is best understood when taught in conjunction with anatomical structure. This course presents a first-level integration of the mechanical/anatomical/neurological basis of human movement. The subject matter is specifically developed for students in the health professions. A hands-on kinesthetic approach is used, in which material from gross anatomy, biomechanics, and physiology is integrated. Human movement is studied from the perspective of functional, kinematic, and kinetic descriptions of single-joint, complex-joint, and multi-joint motions and their relationship to human occupations. Students will also develop fluency in the highly specialized language of health and the human body through a medical terminology module. The mastery of medical terminology that students will develop in this course is important for those looking to work in a healthcare profession.
Prerequisite(s): Matriculation in the MSOT Program. Corequisite(s): PROT 503 .
