CS 556 - Internet of Things: Fundamentals, Technology, and Applications

The state of the arts in networking and communications, data acquisition and collection from wireless sensors for the Internet of Things (IoT) and its related technology will be introduced. It introduces platforms and solutions supporting the development and deployment of IoT applications. It also discusses how stream processing offers scalable and reliable solutions to handle a large volume of data. An overview of security challenges related to the development of smart objects will also be covered. The course will also introduce some applications that have been made feasible by the emergence of IoT. Students will be required to use application-specific hardware and set up communication channels among components. Students will also explore IoT technology through hands-on labs, and gain experience to apply theory to a real-world project.
Prerequisite(s): CS 555  or equivalent.
