BIO 274W - Genetics


4 credit(s) Writing Intensive
This course explores principles of classical and molecular genetics. Topics include the structure and function of genes, principles of heredity, and the molecular mechanisms underlying gene expression, regulation, and mutation. The laboratory provides hands on exploration of genetic crosses using Drosophila and C. elegans as model organisms, bacterial transformation, mutagenesis and complementation analysis in yeast, and human DNA extraction, amplification and analysis.
Prerequisite(s): BIO 122  or NEU 102  (minimum grade of C), and either CH 110  and CH 111P  (minimum grade of C in CH 111P ) or CH 114  and CH 136  (minimum grade of C in CH 136 ).
Laboratory fee.
