M 114 - Introduction to Statistics

This course introduces students to the basic concepts and processes of descriptive and inferential statistics. Topics may include data organization and visualization, measures of central tendency and variability, outlier detection, linear regression and correlation, probability, random sampling, discrete and continuous probability distributions, sampling distributions, the concept of population vs. sample data, confidence intervals, and hypothesis testing. This course is not calculus-based, and places an emphasis on interpretation and analysis of real-world data sets. Students will be introduced to and make use of software for data analysis.
