MUM 120 - Introduction to Arts Management

An introductory survey of the music management/entertainment industry. Introduction to the general principles of for-profit (recording, retail, artist management) and not-for-profit (symphony orchestra, dance, theatre, etc.) sectors. Investigation of career opportunities in arts management. In this course we will review the basic structure of the music and arts management fields, explore current practices and trends. Students will acquire an in-depth understanding of arts and commerce, the vitality of audiences, managerial set up, financial deals, negotiation points, terminology and for-profit and non-profit funding.
