SYB 275 - Urban Trauma and Resilience

This course helps students grasp the hidden but pervasive intergenerational impacts of trauma in our urban communities. Students gain the knowledge and perspective necessary to assist clients and families in managing the state of crisis produced and perpetuated by oppressive social systems. They learn to contextualize and understand emotional responses such as anger, mistrust and a sense of hopelessness that affect under-served urban communities. Students gain expertise in human service advocacy. The course prepares future human services professionals to serve as advocates who empower their clients.
