SOC 145 - Gun Violence in America

3 credit(s)
This course examines gun violence in the United States from an interdisciplinary perspective, drawing on research from sociology, criminal justice, public health, history, and political science. It explores the social, cultural, legal, and political contexts of gun ownership, with particular attention to the Second Amendment and the scope of federal and state regulatory authority. Throughout the course, students will engage with empirical research to evaluate whether high levels of gun violence are inevitable and to consider evidence-based approaches to reducing firearm-related harm.
