CMM 151 - Introduction to Sports Communication

3 credit(s)
This course will explore sports communication from two perspectives: those who create sports information to be consumed by the public (for example, sports journalists, reporters and broadcasters) and those who create sports information that is directed to both the public and the media (for example, public/media relations practitioners for sports teams and organizations). In particular, this course will explore the impact of technology on sports communication and the evolution of the work done by sports communicators. Students will gain an appreciation of the work done by sports communicators on ‘both sides’; the on-the-job similarities and differences and how conflict can arise when there are competing stakeholders.
Laboratory fee.
