The Master of Education with a Montessori Concentration (M.Ed.) at the University of Hartford is the only program located in Connecticut that combines Association of Montessori Internationale (AMI) teacher training with a graduate degree. The program is a partnership between the University’s College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions (ENHP) and the Montessori Training Center Northeast (MTCNE). This competitive M.Ed. program is for students who are currently enrolled in or have completed within the past five years an AMI teacher-training program. The graduate program provides high-quality training and professional development within a community of vibrant public and private Montessori schools. The concentration in Montessori recognizes the professional preparation of the Montessori- trained teacher and builds on that to provide the Montessori teacher with a well-rounded back- ground in all areas of early childhood education.
The Montessori Training Center Northeast is responsible for the field placements of students. These placements are made in AMI- accredited Montessori schools in Connecticut and Massachusetts. The Montessori Concentration is not a certification program. After successful completion of the Master of Elementary Education program, students will be eligible to apply for a Connecticut State Teaching Endorsement #512, which allows them to teach in public Montessori schools at the Elementary level.
