General Education Requirements for the A.A. and A.S. Degrees (A&S)

Reading and Writing (0-6 credits)
Information Technology Literacy (3 credits)
Students must take one course from a list of approved courses in information technology literacy. Foundations of Citizenship (0-6 credits)
Students must take one course from a list of approved courses in two areas: - Citizenship/Community
- Diversity
Exploration and Breadth (26-29 credits)
Humanities (9 credits)
- Three courses from three different disciplines from the following list: literature, foreign language, history, philosophy.
- One of the three may be a UISC course.
Arts (3 credits)
- One course from art history, music, cinema, drama, or UISA.
Social Sciences (6 credits)
- Two courses from two different disciplines from the following list: economics, politics, psychology, sociology.
- One of the two may be a UISS course.
Natural Sciences (8 credits)
- One 4-credit laboratory course from biology, chemistry, physics, or SCI.
- One 4-credit, college-approved UIST course.
Mathematics (0-3 credits)
University Interdisciplinary Studies (0-3 credits)
At least one UISA, UISC, or UISS course must be taken, either to complete the Exploration and Breadth requirements or in addition to them. Communication (10-28 credits)
