Program Information
Nursing BSN
The Department of Nursing offers two tracks leading to a bachelor of science in nursing: the traditional, prelicensure program and the RN to BSN completion program.
Upon completion of the major and University requirements the student earns a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, graduates will be eligible to take the National Council Licensing Examination in Nursing for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN), a required credential for nursing practice.
The undergraduate nursing program meets the standards of the Connecticut Board of Examiners for Nursing. The University is a member of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN).
The goal of this undergraduate program is to prepare students to be nurse generalists who are skilled in promoting health, use clinical judgement to deliver high quality, compassionate, and evidence based care to individuals, families and communities, and who demonstrate cultural and ethical understanding and leadership abilities.
Facilities
A comprehensive collection of nursing journals and books as well as audiovisual equipment are housed in the Mortensen Library. There are five computer laboratories on campus, supplied with a variety of personal computers, printers, and software. The Beatrice Fox Auerbach Hall houses the offices for the Nursing programs.
Accreditation and Memberships
The pre-licensure BSN Program has been awarded initial approval by the Connecticut Board of Examiners for Nursing.
Admission Requirements
- Four years of high school English
- Three years of high school social studies
- Three years of high school mathematics
- Two years of high school foreign language
- Three years of high school lab science including biology (required), chemistry (required), and one of the following: anatomy, physiology, earth science, or AP biology
- SAT or ACT score are optional
- At least one letter of recommendation from a teacher or school counselor
