Composition Minor (D.M.A.)

The graduate minor in Composition is open to all Hartt D.M.A. students who want to deepen their musical creative experience and enhance their knowledge of compositional techniques and aesthetics. To complete this minor, the student must register for a letter grade in all courses counting toward the minor, and must not receive grades lower than B- in all these courses.

Admissions process

  1. The student will present a selection of completed works for the composition chair to review. The decision to admit will be based on whether these show sufficient technique and room for growth.
  2. The student must successfully complete an interview with the chair of the composition department, or a designated faculty member.
  3. The student must then fill out and process the University change of major form. This form requires the signatures of the student’s major advisor, the Composition department chair, and the Academic and Contemporary Studies Division co-director.
