Film & Video Production, B.A.

All students take 6 courses (19-20 credits) in film studies and film/video production. These courses are divided into 3 groups: introductory, grounding, and experiential learning. Students select an emphasis of study, either Screenwriting & Film Studies or Film/Video Production. Both tracks each require 6 additional courses (18-19 credits). The Screenwriting & Film Studies emphasis requires three “study in depth” courses and three additional electives from the list of Film & Video Production courses. The Film/Video Production emphasis requires: CIN 322 - Cinematography , four “study in depth” courses, and one additional elective from the list of Film & Video Production courses. All students who successfully complete these requirements are eligible for a B.A. in Film & Video Production.

General Education Requirements (HCAS)


In addition to major requirements, students must meet the General Education Requirements that correlate to their degree.

Major GPA and Grade Requirements


Students must maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.0 in courses required to complete the major. All courses required for the major must be taken for a letter grade; they may not be taken Pass/No Pass.

Additional Information (3+1 Bachelor of Arts in Film &Video Production/Master of Business Administration)


The purpose of this accelerated program is to enable University of Hartford students to complete both a Bachelor of Arts in Film & Video Production and an MBA in 4 years. This program is designed for Film & Video Production majors who have demonstrated a commitment to academic excellence and who wish to pursue an MBA in addition to the BA. Students must declare in their first semester. Students take 2 pre-approved graduate level courses in the third year of undergraduate study. These must be on campus courses, one in the Fall and one in the Spring. To aid in the completion of the program in 4 years, these two courses (6 credits) can count toward both the BA and MBA.
