NUR 360 - Mental Health Nursing

This course considers the application of nursing concepts and principles in the context of mental health. Clinical reasoning and evidence-based care is utilized to focus on psychotherapeutic nursing management throughout the continuum of care and across the lifespan. The emphasis is on principles of mental health, the therapeutic nurse/patient relationship, psychopharmacology, and populations that are vulnerable to mental health challenges. Under direct supervision, the student will be placed in institutional and community settings devoted to mental health needs of patients, families, and populations. The experience is designed to foster correlation of principles and concepts to skilled and competent clinical practice in the mental health domain. Integration of foundational competencies learned in previous semesters is expected in this course. A passing grade of C and satisfactory achievement of clinical objectives must be accomplished to pass this course.
Prerequisite(s): NUR 301 .
