HS 452 - Emergency Medical Technician II

This course is the second of two courses that will prepare students to provide prehospital assessment and care for patients of all ages with a variety of medical conditions and traumatic injuries. At the completion of  HS 451 - Emergency Medical Technician I  and HS 452 Emergency Medical Tech II, students will have met the initial requirements for state of Connecticut and national certifications as an Emergency Medical Technician. Areas of study include responding to, assessing and pre-hospital treatment of traumatic emergencies; roles and responsibilities of emergency medical technicians; anatomy and physiology for pre-hospital providers; medical legal and ethical issues in EMS; documentation of patient assessments and interventions; leadership on emergency scenes and EMS operations; recognizing and managing scenes where hazardous materials may be present; sizing-up and triaging emergency patients during mass-casualty incidents; responding to incidents of terrorism; emergency vehicle operations; understanding how science-based medicine applies to pre-hospital emergency medicine.
Prerequisite(s): HS 451 .
