UISC 150D - The Caribbean Mosaic


3 credit(s) High Impact Practice: Diversity
This course is a study of the cultures of the Caribbean, using readings, videos, and cross-cultural experiences. It covers a wide-ranging number of topics including the legacy of indigenous cultures, the history of slavery, and the impact of the European colonial rule on the cultural, economic, artistic, social, and political aspects of the region. Special attention is given to the immigration of ethnic and racial groups from Africa, Asia, and Europe and their connections to national identities, as well as the cultural mosaic that exists in the Caribbean today.
