PHI 304P - Philosophy and Social Justice

Course Cross-listed with POL 304P
3 credit(s) High Impact Practice: Diversity and Global Learning
What are the philosophical underpinnings of the Black Lives Matter movement? How do feminists justify activism on trans issues? Is there any philosophical support for a modern Poor People’s Campaign or other forms of democratic socialism? This course introduces students to theories of social justice and applies them to popular social movements. We will consider what the philosophical foundation of social justice could be, as well as critiques of the possibility of social justice.
